Enhancing Your Fiction

Engaging Editing for Fiction Writers

Meet the Editor

I’m Emilia, a developmental editor for fiction writers. I help authors turn drafts into compelling, cohesive stories by focusing on the big-picture elements: plot, pacing, character arcs, and emotional impact.

I bring both analytical precision and a writer’s intuition to every project. I don’t just point out what isn’t working; I provide clear, actionable guidance to help you revise confidently while keeping your unique voice intact.

I’ve worked with a wide range of fiction, from romance to fantasy and commercial novels. Over time, I’ve developed a keen eye for structure, story flow, and character development, helping writers at every stage of the drafting process.

If your draft feels stuck, inconsistent, or missing tension, I’ll help you see the story clearly and provide a roadmap to bring it to life.

Free First Chapter Critique

Curious about how a developmental edit could improve your story?

I offer a free critique of your first chapter so you can see my approach firsthand.

Here’s what the critique includes:

  • Big-picture feedback on plot, pacing, and structure

  • Character development insights

  • Notes on tension, stakes, and emotional impact

  • A short summary of key strengths and areas for improvement

This is not line editing or proofreading. It’s a focused, actionable look at the heart of your story.

After your free critique, you’ll have a clear idea of how a full developmental edit could strengthen your manuscript and help you move confidently toward revision.

Submit your first chapter (or first 1500 words) today and see your story in a whole new light.

Developmental Editing Services

A developmental edit focuses on the big-picture foundations of your story. This is not proofreading or line editing. It's looking at how the novel works as a whole.

This service is ideal if you’re:

  1. On an early or middle draft

  2. Stuck on structure or character

  3. Preparing for revisions before beta readers, agents, or self-publishing

Your developmental edit includes:

  • Plot and structure analysisStory arc, pacing, stakes, and scene progression. I identify what’s working, what’s dragging, and where the narrative loses tension.

  • Character development: Clear motivation, emotional arcs, consistency, and growth. I flag flat, confusing, or underdeveloped character journeys and suggest ways to deepen them.

  • Point of view and perspective: POV consistency, narrative distance, and whether the chosen viewpoint is serving the story effectively.

  • Theme and emotional impact. How well the story delivers on its promises, genre expectations, and emotional payoff.

  • Scene-level feedback and in-manuscript comments on purpose, momentum, and clarity. I’ll point out scenes that can be cut, combined, expanded, or reworked.

  • Clear, constructive notes throughout your manuscript explaining why something isn’t working and how to fix it.

  • Editorial report: A detailed written report (typically 5–10 pages) summarising key strengths, core issues, and a clear revision roadmap.

What this edit does not include:

  • Proofreading or grammar corrections

  • Line-by-line sentence edits

  • Formatting or fact-checking
